Welcome to Emerald Airport, gateway to the Central Highlands region in Central Queensland, Australia by indie developer Rob Byrne. The region is rich in minerals and agriculture, thriving on irrigation sourced from water storage on the Nogoa and Comet rivers. An irrigation channel intersects the RWY06 approach and hugs the southern perimeter of the airport. The area claims the largest sapphire-producing fields in the Southern Hemisphere. Emerald Airport is serviced by QANTAS and Alliance Airlines with routes to Brisbane and Rockhampton with regular commercial aircraft Embraer 190, Fokker 70, and Bombardier Q400. Australian Royal Flying Doctor Service B350s are regular visitors. For A320/B737 enthusiasts there is also a designated parking space. The terminal building has been recreated with painstaking attention to detail, from structural steelwork and downpipes, air conditioning ducts, and window/door panels down to several works of local art featuring large Australian birds, Emu and Brolga, made from aircraft parts. Read more about these as you walk to the airside arrivals doors.
