Joinville Airport - Lauro Carneiro de Loyola is a public civil aerodrome located in the Brazilian municipality of Joinville , Santa Catarina , operated by CCR Aeroportos . It is located twelve kilometers from the city center. The current passenger terminal, opened on March 8, 2004, has 4,000 m² and capacity to serve up to 1.3 million passengers per year and has an administrative sector and control tower. Its name is in honor of a local businessman and politician, Lauro Carneiro de Loyola . Joinville Airport has previously received regular flights from cities such as Porto Alegre , Criciúma , Navegantes , and Rio de Janeiro . However, the airport currently only operates to three destinations, all in the vicinity of the city of São Paulo .
