Originally opened in 1934 as Shushan Airport, Lakefront was designed during aviation's golden age as "The Air Hub of the Americas". Its iconic Art Deco terminal, historic artwork and waterfront location have made it a landmark of New Orleans aviation. Amelia Earhart was among the famous aviators to visit the airport, which has also survived a remarkable history including its use as a Cold War-era fallout shelter and extensive flooding during Hurricane Katrina.

Today, the airport remains an active aviation facility and offers a unique flying destination just minutes from the heart of New Orleans.
