Rome-Ciampino makes up, together with the Fiumicino Intercontinental "Leonardo da Vinci" (LIRF / FCO) the airport system serving the Italian capital.
Before the crisis caused by the Covid pandemic, the number of passengers who passed through Ciampino airport was close to 6 million/year (2017). In 2022, LIRA was in fourteenth place in the ranking of passenger traffic among Italian airports, with over 3 million and 400 thousand transits and - despite the limitation of daily flights, imposed for environmental reasons - thanks also to the commercial policies of various low cost companies , continues to be one of the fastest growing national airports.
