Klagenfurt is a city in Austria, capital of the State of Carinthia. It is the seat of the diocese of Gurk and the Alpen-Adria University, in addition to being known as a summer resort, due to being bathed by Lake Wörthersee.

The city of Klagenfurt is located in south-central Austria, close to the border with Slovenia. The city is almost equally distant from Innsbruck, to the west, and Vienna, to the northeast.

Located at an altitude of 446 m above sea level, it is bathed by Lake Wörther (Wörthersee) and the river Glan. The city is surrounded by hills and mountains up to 1,000 m high and covered in forest; to the south stretch the Caravanche Mountains, which mark Austria's border with Slovenia and Italy.
