Lagos is a city located in southwestern Nigeria, on the Atlantic coast in the Gulf of Guinea.

It is a port on the Gulf of Guinea. The city consists of a continental part and a series of islands around the Lagos lagoon. The city is not a municipality nor does it have an administration that covers the entire urban area. It has smaller areas, each with its own administration, equivalent to a municipality.

Lagos is Nigeria's most prosperous city, and much of the country's economic activity and wealth are concentrated there. Most of the commercial, financial and business centers of Lagos and Nigeria remain in the Central Business District on the island of Lagos, where the presence of tall buildings can be seen. Lagos is also where most of the country's large banks and financial institutions and headquarters of large companies are located.
